As I have been preparing for the sermon series we are doing during May called “Family of Faith”, I have been struck again with the fact that of all the responsibilities we are given on earth, there is none as important as raising children. I say this now as a Grandparent looking back at the years of parenting our three kids. Parenting each of our kids was such …(Read More)
There are 3 things I really like: Chicago Hot Dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and deep dish pizzas. Really, in my mind those are three delicious things that Chicagoland is known for. So as the new parent of an exchange student I was determined to let Nemo experience Chicago’s greatest. This past Sunday, we stopped at a local dog shop to load-up for lunch. Less than 2 weeks ago Kim and I became parents! That’s right; we are now the proud host parents of an exchange student from China. Our 17 year old high school senior goes by the nickname, Nemo. During this week’s Mother’s Day sermon, I referred to Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist, whose study of the developmental stages of human life is widely recognized. Erikson viewed a person’s life span as passing through eight stages, with each stage having a major “developmental task” to be successfully learned. The developmental task to be learned at each stage prepares the person for learning the next stage successfully. Failing …(Read More)
